Risen Lord Update #3
On Tuesday afternoon, we had our third meeting with leaders from Risen Lord Lutheran Church. In attendance from Tapestry were Randy Johnson, Rick Reisinger, and Cory Glover (Angie Opsahl and Karen Dickerson were unable to attend).
There are two upcoming opportunities for partnership and fellowship with Risen Lord coming up soon – The Harvest Walk on October 3rd and the Trunk or Treat on October 30th. You will find details about these in this and upcoming eNews emails. Both will give us a chance to interact with their members and see the facility.
Beyond those events, we would like to emphasize two things:
1) Purpose and Direction. We’ve entered into these conversations to explore ministry opportunities together. Yet, we are also pursuing a possible plan for Tapestry to relocate to the Risen Lord campus. We believe this could be a “win-win” for both of our ministries, allowing us to retain our separate identities but share space and meaningful ministry. This would likely begin with a tenant-type relationship, although we are discussing ways in which we may grow into equal partners. No decisions have been made, but there seems to be growing excitement about this possibility. Risen Lord is within our original target location, is near many neighborhoods and an elementary school, and is in a rapidly expanding area.
2) Ecumenical Partnership. Beyond our local conversations, there is a larger conversation happening between our two denominations. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) have resumed dialogue in pursuit of an ecumenical relationship for common mission and ministry. We have far more in common than we have differences! You can read more about that conversation here.
It is truly an exciting time! As always, should you have thoughts or questions, please reach out to one of us!
Blessings,
Cory & Randy
