A place of authenticity (cleansing of the Temple)

Mark 11:12-25

12 On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see whether perhaps he would find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. 14 He said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it. 15 Then they came to Jerusalem. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling and those who were buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves; 16 and he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. 17 He was teaching and saying, “Is it not written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But you have made it a den of robbers.” 18 And when the chief priests and the scribes heard it, they kept looking for a way to kill him; for they were afraid of him, because the whole crowd was spellbound by his teaching. 19 And when evening came, Jesus and his disciples went out of the city. 20 In the morning as they passed by, they saw the fig tree withered away to its roots. 21 Then Peter remembered and said to him, “Rabbi, look! The fig tree that you cursed has withered.” 22 Jesus answered them, “Have faith in God. 23 Truly I tell you, if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ and if you do not doubt in your heart, but believe that what you say will come to pass, it will be done for you. 24 So I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. 25 “Whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.”

Winter Warm Up

Join us on Sunday, March 27th at Mallow Run Winery's Winter Warm Up. Enjoy white chicken chili and bread for $10. Delicious desserts and drinks are also available for purchase. Lunch begins at noon. You are welcome to stay as long as you'd like with live music beginning at 2p.m.

Risen Lord Update

An Update on our progress with Risen Lord Lutheran Church

Last Monday, the Board voted to approve the tentative proposal to move forward with our negotiations with Risen Lord.

This means that we will continue to finalize the financial plans and legal agreements.

We plan to offer the details of our new arrangement in two congregational information sessions, between services, on the two Sundays following Easter - 4/24 and 5/1.

Then, we will be seeking final approval at the May Board Meeting on 5/16 and a called congregational meeting on 5/22.

These approvals would have us tentatively moving in June/July and launching services at Risen Lord on Sunday, August 7th.

Please continue to pray for this process and everyone involved. As always, please send me any questions or concerns that you may have.

Staying Connected

Easter Flowers

Once again this year your worship team would like to bring in spring for Easter by decorating with flowers. We will have lilies, hyacinths, daffodils, and tulips. Each pot will cost $10. When you fill out the order form please fill out your name, what flowers and how many of each you would like. You can also designate whether the flowers are in honor or in memory of a loved one, and give their name.

One difference this year: we are only ordering 9 of each flower so please notice if 9 have already been ordered; you will have to choose another kind of flower. Orders will be taken until Saturday, April 10th. Flowers can be taken home on Easter, April 17th. Thank you in advance for helping us decorate!

Sunday School Resumes April 3rd!

Beginning April 3rd we will be resuming our Sunday School and we are tackling a new activity driven curriculum! This will have activities for in-person and online Tapestry families and cover grades K-5.

Volunteers Needed!

If God is calling you to serve, we would love your help! As our church and children’s ministry grow, we need volunteers to help chaperone children’s events and lead curriculum driven activities for our kids during Sunday School (easy-to-follow materials provided). Each week we will focus on biblical messages and explore how our children can apply those truths in their daily lives. We want to share God’s love through songs, activities, and weekly bible verses our children can memorize to become disciples of Christ.

Currently, our Sunday School volunteers would not be needed for every Sunday and would simply sign up for 2-3 Sundays out of the entire season (April-July), but are welcome to do more if they would like to!

Youth Summer Mission Update!

This summer, the youth group plans to join the Disciples Summer Mission in Memphis, TN. Mission dates are June 27-July 1, with a fun side trip scheduled for July 1 & 2. We will return to Greenwood on July 2. If you are interested, please let Ryan know by March 30. We also could use a couple of adult volunteers. Especially if you have construction experience...this helps us get the best jobs!

Disciple Summer Mission

A Woodcarver Portrays Jesus Christ

You are invited to join our First Tuesday Fellowship at Friedens United Church of Christ on Tuesday, April 5th. Rev. David Babb will illustrate the life of Jesus through his beautiful wood carvings. A short business meeting will begin at 11:30 followed by Sandy Hayes' devotions. A delicious lunch will be provided with Rev. Babb's program at 12:30. Oliver Jack McCarty, son of Amy and Sean McCarty, was born on March 9th. Oliver is the third grandchild and the first grandson of Tapestry member Suzanne McCarty. He is thriving at home with his parents.
