Moving Towards our New Home
After months of building relationships and dreaming about possibilities for shared ministry, as well as many meetings and negotiations, we are now ready to present our vision for relocation to our new home.
We know this has been a lengthy process; yet, we have been intentional to hear from a multitude of voices, to exercise due diligence, and to navigate unexpected realities.
We thank you all for your patience in allowing us to follow the Spirit’s leading as we’ve made these arrangements for our future together - and we look forward to sharing more details with you at our upcoming meetings.
Here is a quick overview of the proposal:
Vision
The vision is to have two thriving congregations in one location. We will continue to maintain our separate identities and structures, but we will partner with one another in shared ministry as much as possible. This means sharing expenses like utilities and maintenance and working together on things like Christian education and mission projects.
Woven Worship will run concurrently with Risen Lord’s worship service at 9:30am - with Woven happening in the Fellowship Hall. We will retain our current fellowship time between services. Our Traditional Worship will start at 11:00am in the Sanctuary.
Arrangement
This will be a two-phase process. In phase 1, lasting approximately two years, we will continue to get to know one another and find ways to share in meaningful ministry. In addition, we will form a joint task force with Risen Lord leadership to work on phase 2, the long-term agreement that will result in Tapestry obtaining joint ownership of the physical assets.
While we are actively looking for someone to take over our current lease, we have not yet found anyone. Our lease agreement expires in October 2023.
In order to reduce our monthly “payments” and eliminate the need to manage two “rents”, we found an innovative solution. One that will still provide Risen Lord with increased cash flow and will provide Tapestry a way to move ahead despite being in an existing lease.
While Tapestry will make monthly payments to offset our portion of shared utilities and maintenance costs, we will not pay “rent” to Risen Lord.
Instead, Tapestry will make a loan to Risen Lord for one half of the current balance of their mortgage (approximately $450,000) out of the proceeds of the sale of the Epler property, which we currently have invested with our partners, Disciples Church Extension Fund and Christian Church Foundation.
After phase 1, if Tapestry and Risen Lord decide to move ahead with phase 2 and enter the joint ownership agreement, the loan to Risen Lord would become the “down payment” on the purchase of its share of the property.
Should Tapestry Church, Risen Lord, or both entities decide not to enter a joint ownership agreement, the loan from Tapestry would be paid back in full.
Timeline
For each of the next two Sundays - 4/24 and 5/1 - we will be having congregational information sessions between services (10-10:30am). This will allow us to share additional details and hear any questions or concerns.
We will be seeking final approval for the move at the May Board Meeting on 5/16 and a Called Congregational Meeting on 5/22. There will be an option for digital voting.
If approved, we would be tentatively moving in June/July and launching services at our new home on Sunday, August 7th.
We hope you can join us for these important sessions.
As always, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
