Outreach News!
I'm hoping you were able to read the Thank You note in last week's enews from Westwood Elementary - particularly the line that said "You are impacting children's lives by meeting their basic needs: food."
PLEASE FEEL THE MAGNITUDE OF THIS LAST SENTENCE!
Outreach has been collecting food, from many of you, and preparing weekend food bags for Westwood during the past 3+ years. Students who are in need of the food are identified by the School Student Services Coordinator. Currently, we are preparing and delivering 22 bags weekly.
We recently learned that the #1 & #2 elementary schools (when comparing Free & Reduced Lunch %) in all of Greenwood are receiving weekend bags from another church. Westwood elementary is #4 in the ranking. Southwest Elementary, which is #3, does not currently receive weekend food.
Midwest Food Bank, through their Executive Director Marcie Luhigo, has agreed to enter a partnership with Tapestry and provide the food for both Westwood & Southwest Elementary students in need! What a blessing! Tapestry will provide the labor of picking up food, putting the food in bags, and delivering it to the schools each week that students are in school.
We are working on a plan to begin this enhanced ministry the first week of February.
From the initial announcement last week, many of you have already volunteered to help. If you have not yet volunteered, but would like to help, please contact Brenda Rohl. The challenge issued is to figure out how you can help these children, rather than telling yourself why you can't!
THANK YOU MIDWEST FOOD BANK, MARCIE LUHIGO,
AND TAPESTRY CONGREGATION!
