Elements
For many, religion is a taboo subject at best and a curse word at worst. It’s likely in a contest with politics over which might be the least desired conversation topic. Because of the excess of some expressions of religion, it’s become popular to abandon the idea altogether, preferring some sort of ‘spiritual, but not religious’ posture. Yet not all expressions of religion are toxic and there are many benefits to faith that only religious structure can offer. Reclaiming the idea of healthy religion might be the thing that can save us from the milieu of moral relativism and passivity.
Join us this Lenten season as we embark upon a new series and seek to examine the elements of the Christian religion – how they formed and why they still matter today.
Author David Dark says, “Life’s too short to pretend you’re not religious.” This Lent, let’s reclaim these building blocks to form a religion that is truly worth having.
2023 Lenten Devotionals
The theme for this year’s Lenten journey is “Elements.” The weekly messages
will focus on different elements, or building blocks, of our religious lives, such as communion, baptism, the liturgical calendar, and sacred spaces. Why are these structures and rituals important to us? What other building blocks have been important in your faith?
We would like you to share an element of your religious life with your Tapestry family, together with a song or a photo that represents that element. All you need to do is send an email to office@gototapestry.org, attach your photo or song with your name and a brief description of it and how it represents an element of your religious life and experience. If you are sending a song, send a link to a publicly accessible performance, such as YouTube, or the song title and artist. If your photo is a hard copy, please call the church office and let them know you would like to bring it in, or bring it on Sunday with your written explanation and your name. Daily emails will begin on Ash Wednesday, February 22nd and continue through Easter Sunday.
Please send your submissions by Sunday, February 19th.
We hope it will make the journey through Lent more meaningful as we explore these building blocks with our church family.
Lenten book study
Join us for a Lenten book study! From local (Indianapolis) authors and pastors Ben Sternke and Matt Tebbe, we will dive into their book, Having the Mind of Christ: Eight Axioms to Cultivate a Robust Faith. This study will cover eight practical ways to deepen our walk with Jesus.
There will be two options for study:
1) Beginning February 28th, in-person meetings will be Tuesdays at 10am at Tapestry/Risen Lord in room #3
2) Thursdays via Zoom, beginning March 2nd at 7pm.
This study will run for the six weeks of Lent and culminate in an in-person final meeting following our Maundy Thursday service on April 6th.
Click below to register. The first 25 to sign up will receive the option to purchase the book for $10!
