Longing for Peaceful Moments?
This Sunday, December 10th, is designated as Peace Sunday. On this day, we especially give thanks for the peace that Jesus brings to our lives, and we reflect upon the importance of finding peace in our personal lives and in the world. To help us begin the process of finding greater peace in our personal lives, Judy Donovan will be leading a twenty minute session called “Peaceful Moments” from 10:30 to 10:50 in Room #3, that will provide hands-on instruction relating to meditation, breathing, and simple chair exercises designed to help us find greater personal peace.

Christmas Eve Collection
Outreach will be collecting baby items on Christmas Eve in honor of the baby Jesus! Donated items will be given to Resources of Hope for foster babies. Renae, Director of Resources of Hope, says she often refers to a “90 minute pregnancy” when thinking of foster infants going to a home because that is all the preparation time foster parents often have. More About Hunger
For both Tapestry and Risen Lord, many of our outreach efforts have gone toward addressing the problem of food insecurity in our immediate area. We have accomplished much with the donations to food banks and work providing weekend food backpacks for local children.
It is true, unfortunately, that these efforts account for less that 20% of the food needs of families in Indiana. Half of the supplemental meals come from programs like SNAP and WIC; another 20% comes from school meals – in other words, from government food security programs.
It may be time for us to extend our efforts to trying to influence the people who authorize those programs. Bread for the World (BFTW) has a long record of working to do just that – educating and lobbying legislators and others in power to consider this humanitarian crisis. Much of this is accomplished through educational programs and “Offerings of Letters”. A special broadcast will be held Dec. 12 to launch the 2024 focus, “Nourish Our Future”, focusing on children. If you are interested in broadening our hunger work, consider attending this presentation – you can register HERE.
If you do attend, or just want to know more, please let Pastor Wendy or Susan McNeely (kyvoyageur@gmail.com) know. We would like to follow up in January with a Zoom meeting to discuss steps that our congregations might take to get involved with programs addressing the systematic issues leading to hunger among us.
