To kick off the new year, we’ll be exploring the power of moments, based on the New York Times’ bestselling book by Chip and Dan Heath. What makes our moments significant? Why do some memories last longer than others? How do we create more of them?
Join us this January as we explore a life of EPIC moments and consider how our faith can guide us along the way.

John 12:1-7
Six days before the Passover Jesus came to Bethany, the home of Lazarus, whom he had raised from the dead. 2 There they gave a dinner for him. Martha served, and Lazarus was one of those reclining with him. 3 Mary took a pound of costly perfume made of pure nard, anointed Jesus’s feet, and wiped them with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume. 4 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (the one who was about to betray him), said, 5 “Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and the money given to the poor?” 6 (He said this not because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; he kept the common purse and used to steal what was put into it.) 7 Jesus said, “Leave her alone. She bought it so that she might keep it for the day of my burial.

3rd Annual Ski Trip - 2024!
We will leave Tapestry for Perfect North at 7 am on January 27th and return around 8 pm that evening. This will allow us to ski from 9:30-5.
$75 per person will cover costs for transportation, lift tickets, rentals, ski school (if necessary), and dinner on the way home. Please bring $20 for lunch and drinks throughout the day.

M&Ms
(Mary & Martha) will meet on January 9, 2024 at 10AM at the church. The lesson this month is “The Promise of God’s presence” led by Norma Jean Bosworth. Refreshments will be provided by Betty Sisco. All women of the church are invited to attend.
Navigating Life’s Transitions
The Greek philosopher Heraclitus declared that “the only constant in life is change.” As people of faith, we would add that God’s love for us is also a constant in our lives, but even as Christians, we recognize that adapting to change is a big part of life.
Karri York, our traditional service director of music, is also a college professor of vocal music and an accomplished musician. As a part of her journey, Karri wrote beautiful poems that she titled “Colors of My Heart” about the changes and the different phases of life that we go through. Her poems were put to music and shared vocally by Karri at Anderson University in the fall of 2023.
Karri’s poems come from her heart and from her experiences in life, and she will be sharing her music as well as the backstories of her poems with us on Saturday morning, January 20th from 9:30 to 11:30 in Fellowship Hall, as a way of providing an opportunity for reflection and healing in a session called “Navigating Life’s Transitions.”
All are invited to come and share in this time of healing and reflection about the changes that come in life. There is no cost for the session, and breakfast snacks will be provided as well as childcare.

The People’s Book Club
Happy New Year to all book club members and those thinking about joining us. We have had a conflict with our January 16th date. Therefore we will be changing the date of our meeting to Tuesday, January 23rd. That gives you an extra week to finish the book! We will still meet at Lisa Fultz’s home at 6:30. I’m looking forward to some rousing discussion and to see you all in person. So please change your calendar to January 23rd for book club and I’ll see you all then!
Ending Hunger 101
“Mom. MOM! I’m hungry.”
This was a frequent refrain when my children were young. It was unsurprising since they were growing and active. My children and I were lucky. I was always able to provide nutritious meals and snacks for them. I’ve never had to make the difficult choice between paying for rent or utilities and groceries. This is not the case for so many families today.
In 2022, 40 million persons in the United States were food insecure, an increase of 10 million persons from the year before.
Between 2021 and 2022, child hunger rose 45%.
Globally, hunger rose 25%, an additional 340 million persons who face food insecurity.*
As people of God, we ask ourselves, “What does hope look like during such challenging times?” An impactful way to make a difference is to learn more. Join me in attending Ending Hunger 101: Change the Systems on Saturday, January 13th. Read below to learn more about this training opportunity. Hunger is increasing dramatically in the US and around the world. Big picture actions are needed. I invite you to to learn more by attending Ending Hunger 101: Change the Systems on Sat Jan 13th. Explore the systemic issues that contribute to food insecurity, and learn what you can do to change them.
Both new persons and experienced Bread for the World leaders have found value in the class. The class offers plenty of time for questions and discussion.
