Lent Series - The Lord's Prayer
Most people know the Lord’s Prayer by heart. It is prayed everywhere from church services to football fields, and it is the only prayer that Jesus taught his disciples to pray. But do we really know this prayer, beyond rote memorization? Do we understand the full meaning of its words?
The Lord’s Prayer isn’t just meant to be recited; it’s meant to be lived. So, join us this Lenten season as we explore this iconic prayer together, learning to move beyond merely saying the prayer to living the prayer.
Ash Wednesday Services will be held at 12noon and 7pm in the Sanctuary on Wednesday, February 14th.
Lenten Book Study 2024
Beginning the week after Ash Wednesday, Tapestry and Risen Lord will be offering a combined six week Lenten book study using a book written by Adam Hamilton entitled “Wrestling with Doubt, Finding Faith.” As we journey through Lent, we will be reflecting upon our faith and even discussing challenging questions like: Is there a God? The Good Book . . . wrestling with the Bible? Are non-Christians going to Hell? Is Heaven real? Do prayers go unanswered? and Why do the innocent suffer?
We would love to have you join one of our two study groups as we read the book together, discuss what we have read, and pray together.
**Group #1 will meet on Tuesday mornings in person at church, room #3, from 10:00 to 11:00 - meeting on February 20, 27 and March 5, 12, 19, 26.
**Group #2 will meet on Wednesday evenings on Zoom from 7:00 to 8:00 - meeting on February 21, 28 and March 6, 13, 20, 27.
The cost of the book is $10 and you can register for the
or for the
or you can sign up at one of the welcome centers on Sunday mornings.
Lenten Devotionals
Would you like to be part of this year’s Lenten Devotional? The theme for this year’s Lenten journey is The Lord’s Prayer and we would like you to share a prayer that is meaningful to you with your Tapestry family. All you need to do is send an email to office@gototapestry.org that contains the text of the prayer you would like to share and, if you want, a few words about why it’s important to you. Also, it is important that we properly credit the author of the prayer, so please include the author’s name and the name of the book or other publication where it appeared. Please send your submission in by Sunday, February 11th so that there is time to assemble the emails that will go out every day beginning on Ash Wednesday, February 14th and continuing through Easter Sunday, March 31st. Thank you for helping make our devotional journey through Lent a meaningful shared experience!
The Lord's Prayer Contest
During the Lenten season this year, we will be holding a contest for which you can write and submit your own version of the Lord’s Prayer. Please submit your own unique prayer, rather than one that’s already been written. While the version we use at Tapestry may be one we know and love, we feel that in working together, we can create a version that better suits our world and our church. The prayer chosen as the winner will be adopted for use in Woven services.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, March 8th.
Note: If applicable, there may be more than one winner. In this case, with permission from the winners, we may weave the prayers together. Even if you haven’t written a full version of the Lord’s Prayer, feel free to submit your thoughts (i.e. “What if we say ‘Our Creator’ rather than ‘Our Father’?”).
