Join us this Sunday as we begin the series, Living Out Loud
The Apostle James was writing to an ancient community engaged in conflict. They were allowing the values of their culture to creep into their midst, and they had allowed petty divisions to tear their community into cliques.
Because of this, James’ challenge for these followers of Jesus was quite intense. He demands that faith be lived out loud, and he has little sympathy for those who cannot reach that standard. His words are very challenging, yet his voice is one we still need to hear, even today.
Join us this September as we walk through this important letter.
James 1:17-27
17 Every generous act of giving, with every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. 18 In fulfillment of his own purpose he gave birth to us by the word of truth, so that we would become a kind of first fruits of his creatures. 19 You must understand this, my beloved brothers and sisters: let everyone be quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to anger, 20 for human anger does not produce God’s righteousness. 21 Therefore rid yourselves of all sordidness and rank growth of wickedness, and welcome with meekness the implanted word that has the power to save your souls. 22 But be doers of the word and not merely hearers who deceive themselves. 23 For if any are hearers of the word and not doers, they are like those who look at themselves in a mirror; 24 for they look at themselves and, on going away, immediately forget what they were like. 25 But those who look into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and persevere, being not hearers who forget but doers who act—they will be blessed in their doing. 26 If any think they are religious and do not bridle their tongues but deceive their hearts, their religion is worthless. 27 Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

Joint Ownership Team - September Update
Joint Ownership Team Update - September 2024
The members of the Joint Ownership Team, composed of equal members from both Tapestry and Risen Lord, have been meeting together regularly and working toward a shared agreement for our future life together.
A summary and overview of our plan can be found here.
While the official legal documentation and our guiding covenant are still in process, the Board unanimously approved the resolution for Tapestry to purchase a fifty percent ownership stake in the Risen Lord property on Monday, August 19, 2024.
We will be seeking congregational approval for this decision on Sunday, September 29th, at 10:30am, in the Fellowship Hall, in a called meeting.
Prior to that, we are providing several opportunities for you to learn more about this exciting new partnership.
There will be two Tapestry only information sessions:
- Sunday, September 8th, at 10:30am, in the Fellowship Hall
- Tuesday, September 10th, at 7pm on Zoom
There will be three joint Q&A sessions, led by Bill Bass (Tapestry Board Chair) and Dayna Zook (Risen Lord Leadership Team President):
- Sunday, September 15th, at 9am in Room 3
- Sunday, September 15th, at 10:30am in Room 3
- Tuesday September 17th at 11:30am in Room 3

Youth & Parent Call Out
Join us for a pickleball tournament at the Greenwood Fieldhouse on Sunday, September 8th from 1-3 pm! Bring a friend!
We will provide snacks and drinks and have a quick parent meeting before the games begin. Ryan will outline the upcoming youth calendar and provide some key dates. No pickleball paddle? No worries, we will have plenty. See you at the Fieldhouse! (411 S Madison Ave, Greenwood)

Tapestry Church Picnic
Sunday, September 22nd, immediately following the combined service at at 10:30am.
Let's welcome the autumn season with a picnic and your favorite fall recipes. The church will provide fried chicken (along with a vegetarian option) and drinks. We are asking that you bring the side dishes and desserts (think all things apple, sweet potato, pumpkin, corn, etc...but, of course, you can bring whatever you would like!). If your last name starts with A-M please bring a side dish and N-Z please bring a dessert.
We will have a few tables set up outdoors, along with a few tables indoors in the narthex, but feel free to bring a picnic blanket or camp chairs too.

September Outreach
During September, Outreach will be collecting items for the Food Pantry at Unconditional. Unconditional exists to encourage, empower, and equip women in the adult entertainment and sex industries through Outreach, Classes & Groups, & Programs. Unconditional informed us their pantry shelves are nearing empty. They would appreciate:

Rocket Launch – Fellowship and Celebration
Please join us on Sunday, September 29 at 4:30 pm to what we anticipate will be a wonderful celebration of Risen Lord and Tapestry forming The Common Place to operate and manage the property. We will have food, fun and fellowship, and as part of the celebration, we will be launching model rockets in the open field north of the building. Everyone is welcome to launch a rocket! If you don’t already have a rocket, we will supply you with one, just let us know on the sign-up sheet at church or by e-mailing Fred Hamilton at 7680fh@gmail.com. We need to know if you want a rocket by September 15 so that we can get them ordered in time for the event. To add to the fun, we will assemble our rocket kits together on Sunday, September 22 at 4:30 p.m. at church. Let’s have a blast together!
Women's Retreat
Save the Date: Women's Event, Saturday, October 5 from 9am to 3pm @ Tapestry Church. Guest Speaker: Gina Huff, Topic: Resilience in the Face of Change based on the verse from Romans 12:2 (TPT). Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God's will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect (mature) in God's eyes.
Cost: $25.00 per person includes light breakfast/lunch.

Annual Women's Event
The Indiana Women’s Council of the Christian Church in Indiana invites all Disciples Women to the Annual Women's Event!
When: Saturday, September 21, 2024; 10am-5pm (EDT)
Where: Turkey Run State Park – Lodge
Keynoter: Rev. Sylvia Mill
Cost: $45 includes lunch, snack and entry fee into the park

75 years ago, Disciples Women from around the country gathered at Turkey Run State Park here in Indiana to dream about the future of women’s ministry. This fall, we will follow in their footsteps.
Join other Disciples Women from around the Indiana Region for a day to “Rejoice & Renew.” Together we will Honor our Heritage and Embrace the Future of Women’s Ministry in Indiana. Keynoter, Rev. Sylvia Mill, will offer reflections on where we have been followed by an afternoon of dreaming and visioning into the future. There will be plenty of time for fellowship, exploring the trails of Turkey Run State Park (or just enjoying some time outside), lunch, and worship. (Women’s groups are invited to bring their Blessing Box money to this event.) Hope to see you there!
