Fear of Rejection

Luke 8:40-56

Now when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him. 41 Just then there came a man named Jairus, a leader of the synagogue. He fell at Jesus’s feet and began pleading with him to come to his house, 42 for he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, and she was dying. As he went, the crowds pressed in on him. 43 Now there was a woman who had been suffering from a flow of blood for twelve years, and though she had spent all she had on physicians, no one could cure her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his cloak, and immediately her flow of blood stopped. 45 Then Jesus asked, “Who touched me?” When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the crowds are hemming you in and pressing against you.” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me, for I noticed that power had gone out from me.” 47 When the woman realized that she could not remain hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him and how she had been immediately healed. 48 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.” 49 While he was still speaking, someone came from the synagogue leader’s house to say, “Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the teacher any longer.” 50 When Jesus heard this, he replied, “Do not be afraid. Only believe, and she will be saved.” 51 When he came to the house, he did not allow anyone to enter with him, except Peter, John, and James and the child’s father and mother. 52 Everyone was weeping and grieving for her, but he said, “Do not cry, for she is not dead but sleeping.” 53 And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But taking her by the hand, he called out, “Child, get up!” 55 Her spirit returned, and she stood up at once, and he directed them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were astounded, but he ordered them to tell no one what had happened.

Staying Connected

The Common Place Spring Cleanup

Spring has sprung! To keep the grounds looking beautiful, The Common Place is looking for volunteers to prune bushes, weed and distribute mulch and stone this Saturday,

May 3rd starting at 9:00am.

Although we have some gardening tools, additional wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes, spades, and trimmers would be helpful.

May Outreach

Our Outreach for April is to help Changing Footprints. Changing the World Two Feet at a Time. They supply shoes to over 100 Indiana organizations as well as overseas. Please donate ANY kind of shoe in ANY condition! New shoes are welcome. Monetary donations are also needed. They moved into a larger space this year with a commercial washer to clean some shoes. We collected 34 pairs of pajamas during the month of April for foster parents who are choosing to love children of all ages! Thank you from Resources of Hope.

Book Study

Rooted in Faith and Justice will challenge your perspectives, confront double standards, and help you discover pathways to solidarity and action. Engage with the realities of Palestine, rooted in faith, justice, and peace, and become part of the movement towards a just and lasting peace.

Krista Johnson Weicksel and Ryan Meek will lead a discussion of the book, co-edited by Krista, Rooted in Faith and Justice: Christian Calls to Conscience & Cries for Peace in Palestine.

Mission Trip 2025 - Christmount

Join us July 7-12 for a service trip to Christmount in Black Mountain, NC. We will help the folks at Christmount and surrounding areas in the long recovery following Hurricane Helene last fall.

The cost is $250 for a family of four ($50/person over 4) and $100 for individuals. A $50 deposit will hold your spot for the trip. We will have an informational meeting on June 1st @ 10:30 am in the Woven Space. The deadline to register is May 18.
