We welcome our guest preacher for this Sunday, Nadine Burton.

Rev. Dr. Nadine Burton is the Vice President, Great Lakes Zone, Christian Church Foundation. She is the former Executive Regional Minister, Great River Region. Having worked in each manifestation of the Christian Church (DOC), she loves preaching which ignites spiritual relationships to plant seeds for donors, congregations, and general ministries to move money to mission from “our doorsteps to the end of the earth.”

Dr. Burton earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee-Martin and a Master of Divinity degree from Memphis Theological Seminary. She completed her Doctor of Ministry degree in Multicultural Studies at Lexington Theological Seminary, completing her thesis, “Considering the Relevance of a Multicultural Reality within the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).”

Dr. Burton loves her family – she has four brothers (two deceased), three sisters, and 60 nieces and nephews, who love God and serve in their communities and churches. After thirty-two years in Christian Ministry, she still believes in the power of unconditional love and prayer that can change the lives of God’s people and the world!

Sabbath as Resistance: Saying No to the Culture of Now - Walter Brueggemann

We are bombarded 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with messages on the need to consume, possess, achieve, and perform. Join us as we delve into the significance of the Sabbath as a form of resistance to these patterns, which often equate humanity with production and consumption. Walter Brueggeman insists that a reimagination of the Sabbath will help us break this routine.

We will imaginatively discuss how the economics of the kingdom of God, enacted through Jesus, calls us to look beyond the rat race to practices that center the love of neighbor instead of consumption.

While Cory is on an extended Sabbath of rest and rejuvenation, let us begin to imagine how sacred rest can change our lives and the world. Join us on three Tuesday evenings (July 15, 29 & August 12) in the Woven space at 630 pm for these discussions.

M&Ms (Mary and Martha) will have their summer outing at Sassafras Lunch & Tea Room 229 N. Madison Greenwood, IN at 11AM on Tuesday, July 8th. In August, we will start a Bible study on the book “Messy People: Life Lessons for Imperfect Biblical Heroes" by Jennifer Cowart.

Tapestry Personnel Committee

End of May/June greetings from the Tapestry Personnel Committee! We want to let you in on a little project to lift up our dedicated Staff members here at Tapestry and let them know how much they are seen and appreciated in so many ways. Over the summer months look for the display outside of the worship areas.

During weeks throughout the summer, we will be highlighting all of our valued Staff members in "clusters" (look for their photos!) to be up and displayed for a few weeks at a time to give you a chance to add to the display-a Summer Salute to Staff, if you will! We are asking for everyone's input by writing thoughtful descriptive words, adjectives, stories, phrases or notes that help describe that staff member in provided "thought bubbles" to be displayed on a dedicated board of Staff Members. All of the word balloons and clouds from each group will then be compiled at the end of summer to create a Word Cloud of all of the accumulated descriptive words that will represent what our Church Staff means to us as a whole.

Please join in this creative process to show our staff just how much we care about and appreciate them and their work in a myriad of ways for not only our congregation, but also for the wider community and our world.
