Eric Eads
How long have you been a part of the Tapestry Community?
My whole life, almost 32 years.
Why is Tapestry important to you?
It is a place where I feel at home. It is a place that has raised me and given me so many wonderful opportunities to build, lead, learn, love, and has been a rock for my family to lean on. What other place would let you build buildings, teach you plumbing, plant trees, sing, play, play music, give you the best friends you could ever ask for, and ask for nothing in return but continue to exude love no matter the circumstances you find yourself.
Everyone has unique life experiences, what is something (or a few things) that your Tapestry family may not know about you?
I once felt a call to ministry but after confiding in a few individuals at a regional youth event and them subsequently gathering a large group of people to celebrate that, against my wishes, since I was still figuring out what it meant for me, it was clear to me that my call had passed and was not in the cards for me. It was very hard for me to come to terms with that and I think it informs my faith to this day. I choose to live my faith rather than talk much about it, I think this experience taught me that speaking about my faith is not what I'm called to do but acting on it.
Do you have any special skills/talents/passions?
I love to make things and take things apart to try to fix them, not that I'm good at any of those things. I am extremely competitive so much so that my wife and I tend to always have some type of competition going at all times.
I think my biggest passion in my life right now, outside of my family and making sure that they are loved, is brewing and understanding beer. I think my engineering brain loves to figure out what goes together and what processes to use to create something that I can enjoy and share with my friends. It is both an art and a science/math project.
My wife and I love to travel, most years we embark on at least one road trip and many trips around the US to be with people we love. We also love spending a week each year overseas, exploring new places, and learning the history and culture of the places we visit. This year we are going to Slovenia and staying in Hostels which is new for both of us, one of which is a former Communist prison that has turned each cell into a work of art and sleeping quarters. I think learning the history and meeting people in THEIR place(s) is one of the most influential and important things one can do for oneself.
What is your favorite Bible verse/quote/poem/saying?
My favorite bible verse is the one that informs my every action and the theme is found throughout the Bible and in many other religious texts across all beliefs. It is found in the Gospel of Matthew Chapter 7 Verse 12, commonly known as the Golden Rule. Not only is it a way to live but it is a connection to all people, religions, and beliefs. "Do to others what you want them to do to you. This is the meaning of the law of Moses and the teaching of the prophets.”
