Tapestry Board Update
Dear Friends,
Your church leadership has been busy and I want to report several items of interest to you from last week’s Board meeting. First of all, on behalf of the Board I want to thank you for keeping up your generous support of Tapestry Church’s ministries. Because of your generosity and the decision of two families to pay all or part of their pledge in advance, as of the end of May our revenue has exceeded the budget by $5,000. Thank you! Expenses are below budget so we are able to be in a healthy financial situation even in the midst of this pandemic. We have also applied for and received a “Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) Loan in the amount of $64,172 which we believe will not need to be paid back because we can spend it on staff support and other expenses allowed for in the PPP loan. A special thank you to Rick Reisinger for taking the lead in that effort!
An ongoing concern of the Board has been using the interest from our “Sale of the Building” fund invested at Disciples Church Extension Fund (DCEF). This was budgeted but we want to be able, if possible, to grow that fund so that more money will be available for use in purchasing our permanent home for the church. Because of our healthy financial condition, the Board welcomed the decision of the Stewardship & Finance Committee to discontinue taking interest from that investment for the remainder of 2020 AND to return over $16,000 to the “Sale of the Building” fund which we have received so far this year (Note: this amount returned actually grew to approximately $20,000 because of an extra payment received from DCEF).
The Board was pleased to hear the report of the Design Team that it seems that we have found a new temporary location for worship, office and meeting space as we continue to look for and plan for a permanent location for Tapestry Church. The Board voted to approve expenditures of up to $25,000 for renovating that space to meet our needs. And $20,000 of that amount will be reimbursed to us by the landlord. Thank you to Karen Dickerson and the Design Team for their continuing work on our behalf.
A Bylaws Review Task Force had previously been appointed by the Board for the purpose of changing the church leadership year to align with the budget year. At this Board meeting those Bylaws changes were approved. Those persons in church leadership whose terms were set to expire at the end of June will now continue through the end of 2020 and future leadership roles will align with the calendar year. The amended Bylaws can be found on our website as well as HERE. Thank you to Matt Fultz, Angie Opsahl, Amy Jones and Cory for their work to make this happen.
Finally, the Board approved the establishment of a Re-Entry Task Force to provide leadership in determining when and how we will begin to be able to safely gather for worship, fellowship, meetings and other events. The members of the Task Force are Angie Opsahl, Bill Bass, Eric Eads, Jim Ream Sarah Nguyen, Scott Opsahl with Cory and I serving as ex-officio members. We look forward to hearing the results of their work.
I also want to express gratitude to the Oversight Team for their passionate work to help us continue to offer meaningful educational, fellowship and outreach opportunities for us. We all look forward to the work they are beginning in the area of anti-racism and pro-reconciliation which is so badly needed in these troubling times.
Friends, these are difficult times and I know we are trying to make the best of them. I request your continuing prayers for our dedicated staff and all our Tapestry’s leadership as we continue to follow God’s call to be the church God wants and needs for us to be. I thank God for each of you and look forward to that time when we can be together again.
Gratefully,
Randy Johnson
First Tuesday Fellowship
We hope that this finds you and your families staying safe and well. COVID 19 continues to create challenges. We are sorry that we are canceling the July FTF meeting. Things are improving, but we feel that it is still best that we do not meet. We miss our being together, and we will do our best to meet as soon as conditions make this a safe and wise decision. God Bless each of you and may we continue to appreciate our blessings.
Donations for The Refuge
The Refuge is continuing to see lots of cars in their drive-through food pantry line during these difficult times. Tapestry Church has a plan to help. We must emphasize, however, that we want no one to put themselves at risk or compromise their own food supply. If you are willing & able to help, we will be collecting Peanut Butter, Canned Fruit, Boxed Macaroni & Cheese, & Peanut Butter Crackers. If you have these items to donate or have questions, contact Brenda Rohl (317 847-3824) and we will arrange a “porch pick up” and get your items to The Refuge.
